Illusive Man - Control (since he wanted Shepard to keep the Collector Base intact) (blue)
Shepard (me) - DESTROY (red)
I stuck with what I planned since the beginning of the game: Destroy the Reaper threat. And that's what I did. I'm a good guy, and I'll always will be. Paragon is the path I selected since the beginning!
Buts that is the problem right there, why must EVERY bit of tech be destroyed, including all robots and cyborgs? Couldn't the Catalyst at least reprogram the Crucible not to TARGET any synthetic but only the Reapers, since it was the most advanced AI in the galaxy.
I also found it a bit nonsensical at first, but a hypothesis posted on TVTropes made a lot more sense to me (I know, it's not canon, but the canon is very confusing on this point): The Crucible destroys everything with Reaper tech. EDI has the IFF integrated into her, and the Geth have Reaper upgrades. That would kind of explain why Shepard can survive on that ending (aside from, you know, fan demand). It's the explanation I like the most, certainly. I'm still a Synthesis kind of person, because both in life and in the game, I believe the best solution comes from reconciling the opposing factions. However, that's another can of worms, since it makes even less sense. DNA can be copied, so why not just copy Shepard instead of dissolving her? Or, if her body is absolutely needed, why not use a hand or foot instead of all of her? Also, you can't make something half-robot by changing the DNA, that's silly. And several more things, but I just embraced the abstract concept like I did with Shepard's resurrection and the Catalyst's logic. I don't think it being what Saren supposedly wanted makes it any less Paragon, though, because Saren was racist and his way of "unifying" things involved killing everyone who disagreed, while Shepard has an entirely different approach.
I believe it's just story writing, because writing leads to scripting. And scripting goes to acting. But why would the AI allow Shepard to shoot a canister that destroys themselves? That's not the solution to the synthetic/organic problem. The Catalyst never said that the Reapers needed to be destroyed because it was wrong and openly admit that it is. And red is pretty much what the Reapers do: eradicate things.
Synthesis is the most retarded logic in gaming. If you want to believe what you said is good for you, that's fine for you because that's your opinion. In green, we're literally FORGIVING the Reapers for what they've done to the galaxy. If we have the full understanding of synthetics, which is incredibly stupid, then what about the husks? Wouldn't they be furious at the god machines because of what they done to them? Wouldn't they be attacking at the Reapers because of those horribly things? Synthesis is pretty much making everyone a husk/reaper. The whole DNA merging with bolts, wires and blood, that's beyond stupidity of genes. It's not how DNA works.
One last thing: Saren wanted to SURRENDER to the Reapers, not MERGE with them. He understood the power of the Reapers and wanted to become slaves to the machines. And you're right he did kill everyone who never agreed with him.
I don't have a problem with forgiving the Reapers. I want peace, not payback. There's very little reason to build on, so I can't really know, but maybe through Synthesis living beings gain enough in the way of understanding and wisdom that they don't crave vengeance anymore. *Shrug* It's still enough of a blank slate that anyone can make of it what they will. The explanation is what I dislike, because it's stupid.
I know, but destroying them won't bring them back. My Shepard is not an advocate of vengeance, and neither am I. If forgiving the Reapers brings lasting peace (which the Catalyst specifically said Destroy wouldn't), then I'm all for it. I want a better future.
