Thanks . I also love long red hair (and on occasion, mine is just that ). Gibbed's Save Editor is possibly the greatest thing ever invented in the Mass Effect universe.
Nice! I'll have to play with it sometime! And while I usally wear mine (in real life and in games, haha) shorter, long hair is just too beautiful! Especially when it's red!
Indeed . Red, the darker the better, is definitely a favorite of mine.
The easiest and most fruitful uses of Gibbed's are simply for eye color (get back the lovely purple eye color from ME1) and hairstyles and colors (literally any color you want). There are, of course, more nefarious uses for Gibbed's, like giving yourself all the possible armor, weapons, and clothes available in the game, upping your war assets/fuel/etc, correcting your mistakes from the previous 2 games (and romancing multiple characters at once ), and less nefarious uses, like (sort of) getting both Kaidan and Ashley in ME3, which is one I'm experimenting with currently.
In any event, if you want to play, I point you towards (1) the general Gibbed's in ME3 thread: [link], (2) the far more important hair-modding blog (much good info in the comments as well, if you can wade through them): [link], and (3) the "using Gibbed's to edit your femShep in ME3" thread: [link]
Waaaaah, thanks! I'll definitely check it out! And... how the heck does it work out if you keep both of them?! Does someone else die in their place...?
No else has to be dead. When you open an existing ME3 save file (of an imported character that played ME1 and ME2) in Gibbed's, you can go in and change the "flags" for certain events in ME1 and ME2. Did you rewrite or destroy the Geth, gain Miranda's loyalty, etc. Two of these are "Kaidan survived Virmire" and "Ashley survived Virmire". Simply check them BOTH, and the game accepts it. With a Kaidan romance flagged, the game defaulted to Kaidan in the Alliance HQ scene and the Normandy rescue scene.
Then the other thing you do, is save the game as soon as you are boots-down on a mission, then open that save in Gibbed's and switch out your squad (by checking "acquired" and "in team" for the two you want). In this way you can get Kaidan and Ashley on your combat squad for any and every mission (yes, even while Kaidan is also lying injured in the hospital; it's a little weird). Of course, this means you could instead have, say, Tali and EDI on your combat squad before you had actually acquired them in-game.
It is buggy on the early missions where you are "supposed" to have a particular character in your squad - sometimes Kaidan or Ashley will say Liara's or James' lines; they won't take the place of an expected character in a cutscene; and sometimes, it just bugs out and you can't complete an objective. So "save early, save often, save multiple versions" is the order of the day.
I've tried checking "acquired" in a save file while on the Normandy, but that does not make them appear on the ship, presumably because of a restriction that they can't be there until after the coup. Now, what I don't know yet is what will happen after the coup and I recruit Kaidan. Can Ashley then also be on the ship? Can I have conversations with her? Will they be standing on top of one another in the observation room?
This means I need to get back to playing, lol. But Kaidan and Ashley were my favorite squad in ME1, and it is very cool to at least have them together on the ground.

Wow, long answer, sorry
